Shillong, Apr 27: A businessman was rescued from his kidnappers in North Garo Hills in a swift and coordinated operation by police.

On April 25 at around 3 PM, members of the public from Bolsong area contacted Bajengdoba Police Station informing about the abduction of a  businessman by unidentified persons in a silver Ertiga tourist taxi bearing registration number ML08-K-5869.

Immediately, a police team from Bajengdoba set up a checkpoint at Mansinggre.

At around 3:30 PM, the suspect tourist taxi along with a bike belonging to the businessman being ridden by one of the kidnappers arrived at the checkpoint and were stopped by the police.

Upon checking of the tourist taxi, the businessman was found inside and was rescued.

Three of the kidnappers were arrested. They were identified as Tengra Ch Marak (36 years), Dipon D. Sangma (38 years) and Lovingson R. Marak (33 years). Tengra Ch Marak claimed to be a member of an NGO named United Garo People’s Forum.

During preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that the three accused had intercepted the businessman who was on his bike on the Bolsong-Agia road. They put him on their Ertiga vehicle and kidnapped him. They forcibly snatched his bike and key, took his mobile phone and robbed him of Rs 30,000 in cash.

The victim raised an alarm  prompting the local villagers to alert the police. A case has been registered againt the three kidnappers at Bajengdoba Police Station.
