Nongpoh, Apr 30: A day after the discovery and rescue of a baby who was dumped and buried alive at a remote village in Mawhati area, Members of the Women’s Organisation of Ri-Bhoi District (WORD) today met the mother of the baby at Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
The WORD delegation was led by their president Mirajune Myrsing.
The visit was to enquire on the health of the baby who is undergoing medical assistance at the hospital.
During the visit, WORD members counselled with the mother and advised her not to resort to such extreme steps even in the midst of poverty or trouble.
Terming the incident of dumping and burrying alive of the baby as very unacceptable in a civilised society, Myrsing also appealed to youngsters especially girls to be very responsible and not to fall prey to any temptations only to regret later and resort to extreme measures that would bring shame not only to them but also their family.
The WORD president also urged women in Ri-Bhoi District facing any problem or difficult situations to contact the organisation for help and support in whatever way possible.
