Shillong, May 2: Police in Shillong city are continuing with their drive against drunk driving and illegal modification of vehicles.
Yesterday night vehicle checking was conducted at Laitumkhrah Police Point in which 30 traffic personnel and 15 Special Operation Team (SOT) members were deployed.
During the operation, police collected fines amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh from violators including drunk drivers and vehicles with illegal modifications.
In one incident, a Scooty rider attempted to run over Unarmed Branch Constable S M Sangma while trying to evade checking. Police have initiated legal action against the rider.
Members of Dorbar Shnong Laitumkhrah including the Rangbah Shnong Andrew A. Jyrwa were also present to support the enforcement drive.
