Shillong, May 26: East Khasi Hills Police on Monday said the exact cause of death in the Pynter assault case will be known only after the post-mortem and forensic reports are received.

Speaking to reporters, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said a post-mortem examination was conducted following the exhumation of the body.

“After the exhumation, the post-mortem was conducted on the spot. However, we are yet to receive the post-mortem and forensic reports. A clear picture will emerge only after these reports are received,” he said.

When asked whether the death was linked to the alleged assault by VDP members, the SP said it was too early to draw conclusions.

“At this stage, we cannot say whether the death was caused by the assault by VDP members or due to other reasons. The findings will depend on the post-mortem report,” he added.

Syiem further stated that the police would take steps to challenge the anticipatory bail granted in the case after receiving the medical and forensic findings.
