Shillong, May 27: Following media criticisms about the current foreign trips by ministers, MLAs, Speaker, and government officers despite the restrictions issued by the Centre, the Meghalaya government today clarified that such trips were planned months in advance and have the approval of the Ministry of External Affairs.
In a statement issued today, the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department said, “The official visits are planned months in advance and also need the approval of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India.”

The statement also clarified that the trips mentioned in media reports were sanctioned before the recent restrictions came into effect.
It also said that no new foreign visits have been approved after the restrictions were announced by the Prime Minister and the Meghalaya Chief Minister.
