Shillong, Jun 24: A temporary diversion route has been opened for vehicular movement from Laitlyngkot to Lyngkyrdem.
The temporary route was necessitated by the recent landslide that washed away a large portion of the road near Laitlyngkot and as a result snapped traffic link to Pynursla and the entire Ri-War Mihngi area.
The temporary route passes through Laitlyngkot, Ïew Mawïong, Umthli, Nongthymmai and Laitkynsew NH Point (Chainage 25+930).
However, only light and medium vehicles will be permitted to move on this route. During daytime, it will be closed for traffic from 10 AM to 4 PM and during night-time, it will be closed from 10 PM to 5 AM.

It was also informed that from Pomlum to Mawlieh, traffic movement will be allowed for all types of vehicles including trucks and buses.
“All traffic will be permitted to cross from both ends (Laitlyngkot and Lyngkyrdem) latest by 10:30 AM after which construction work will be started by the concerned company along the said stretch,” said a public notice issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, Gautam Warjri.
Warjri also said that emergency vehicles including ambulances, fire service vehicles and police vehicles may be allowed to move during the closure period but they need to first contact the Pynursla Police Station by calling 9862251116 “subject to the safety assessment by on-site authorities”.
