FCRA Cell To Be Established In Meghalaya To Help In Application, Renewal Of Licenses

Shillong, Aug 14: While Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act or FCRA is the domain of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the Meghalaya government has taken upon itself to help religious or charitable organisations in submission of application and renewal of FCRA licenses.

Informing this today, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that Meghalaya’s Home Department will soon have an FCRA Cell to help local organisations with applications and renewal of FCRA licenses in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“The purpose of this cell would be to coordinate with the Central government and help different organisations when it comes application and renewal of FCRA licenses and in case of any problems thy can be addressed right here in the State itself,” Sangma said.

According to Sangma, the FCRA Cell will be set up in the State in consultation with the Centre and will operate from Shillong and other locations such as Jowai and Tura if needed, so that organisations in need of assistance and guidance would not need to travel all the way to New Delhi for help.

He also said that the matter was discussed recently with the Union Home Secretary who also assured of periodic support by Central government officials.
