Nongpoh, September 11: One person sustained injuries after a clinker-laden truck allegedly lost control and crashed into two cars parked along the roadside at Umroi Madan on the Shillong Bypass on Friday.
The accident occurred near Tyndai Resort when the truck, bearing registration number NL 01 AH 6742, was travelling from Lumshnong towards Sonapur in Assam. The truck was reportedly being driven by Samely Rymbai, a resident of Moodymai in West Jaintia Hills district.
According to information received, the driver allegedly lost control of the truck after reportedly being under the influence of alcohol. The truck first rammed into a Renault Duster (ML05 AA 1799) parked along the roadside, causing extensive damage to the vehicle, before subsequently crashing into a Mahindra Bolero (ML05 S 3352).
The driver of the Renault Duster, Iamutlang Nongspung of Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills district, sustained injuries in the collision. He was taken to the Bhoirymbong Community Health Centre for medical treatment.

The impact caused extensive damage to both cars. Fortunately, there was reportedly no one inside the Mahindra Bolero when it was hit by the truck, preventing what could have resulted in more serious consequences.
Following the accident, personnel from the Khapmara Police Investigation Centre (PIC) reached the spot and removed the three vehicles to the PIC premises.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, while further legal action will follow based on the findings. The allegation that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol has not been independently established and remains subject to police investigation.
