Hek Meets Amit Shah, Says BJP Planning To Form Own Govt In Meghalaya

Shillong, Sep 11: Senior BJP MLA from Meghalaya, Alexander L. Hek has hinted that BJP is working out on forming its own government in Meghalaya.

He made the statement after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi today.

Hek said that he had detailed discussion with Shah on the political situation and the road ahead.

“During the course of the conversation, I shared my assessment of the emerging political scenario in the State and our vision for the coming days. We discussed the evolving political landscape and the clear opportunity before us to emerge as a strong, credible and independent political force in Meghalaya,” Hek said.

He also said that he sought Shah’s guidance, encouragement and blessings to “work towards forming our own government in Meghalaya”.

Stating that the political scenario is changing, and the coming days will be decisive, Hek said, “We are prepared to seize this opportunity with determination, discipline and a clear sense of purpose.”

“Our goal is not merely to be a participants in Meghalaya politics, but to provide strong, stable and accountable leadership through a government of our own, rooted in the aspirations and interests of the people of Meghalaya,” Hek added.

Today’s meeting between Hek and Shah and the statement that he made indicating the BJP’s plan to form its own government in Meghalaya is significant as it came after the reported move by eight UDP MLAs to join the BJP.

BJP has two MLAs in Meghalaya. If the eight UDP legislators join the saffron party, its strength will go up to ten.

There were also reports about moves by at least 22 NPP MLAs to merge with the BJP. If that happens, the BJP would have 32 MLAs in Meghalaya, enough to form its own government in the State.

Recently, NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met Shah in New Delhi. The agenda of discussion were not known although the meeting between the two took place after media reports of the BJP’s attempt to win over 22 NPP legislators to its camp.
