Khliehriat, September 11: The Khasi Students’ Union, East Jaintia Hills District Unit (KSU EJHDU), led by its General Secretary Kwilness Suchiang, on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Executive Engineer, PWD Khliehriat Division, seeking clarification over the alleged excavation of a public road at Lad Tongseng on July 31, 2026, the same day in which the Public Hearing of Shree Cement was held.
The union has also demanded the registration of an FIR and appropriate action against those responsible for the alleged excavation.
Speaking to the media in Khliehriat, Suchiang said the union had approached the PWD office to ascertain whether permission had been granted to excavate the road. He said the KSU intended to attend the public hearing held on July 31, during which the road was allegedly damaged.
Suchiang said that if the PWD had granted permission for the excavation, the department should provide the union with written confirmation, including the relevant file number, order number, and the name and designation of the officer who granted the permission.
He further sought details of any government agency, individual or other entity that may have approached the PWD for permission to excavate the road, including the relevant records or names of the applicants.

In the event that no permission had been granted, Suchiang asked whether the department had conducted any inquiry to identify those who allegedly carried out the excavation.
The KSU General Secretary also urged the PWD to lodge an FIR to establish responsibility for the alleged damage. He said failure to take action would raise questions about the matter.
