Khliehriat, September 21: Two vehicles suspected of transporting illegal drugs or controlled substances were intercepted by police at Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills on September 16, 2026, following specific information received by the police. The vehicles were intercepted at the Umkiang Police Patrol Post along NH-6.
The operation was conducted around midnight, resulting in the seizure of two vehicles. The first was a white Maruti Swift Dzire (AS 11 Q 0114) driven by Sanjib Kumar Kanu (26) of Durga Nagar, Cachar, Assam. The second was a golden-coloured Maruti Swift Dzire (AS 01 BE 6993) driven by Saidul Islam Barbhuya (34) of Gosaipur Pt. II, Cachar, Assam.
According to police, 8 cartons containing 1,195 bottles of Wincof-Plus cough syrup were seized from the white Swift Dzire, while 7 cartons containing 1,049 bottles of Wincof-Plus cough syrup were seized from the golden-coloured Swift Dzire.
The following day, September 17, 2026, at around 5:00 PM, police received information about another vehicle that had been abandoned at Kuliang and was suspected of also carrying illegal substances.
Police officers and personnel from the Umkiang Police Patrol Post were immediately sent to investigate. Upon reaching the location, they found a white Swift Dzire bearing registration number AS 11 H 0671.
During a search of the vehicle, police seized 1,042 bottles of Wincof-Plus syrup, packed in seven cartons and concealed behind the rear seat.
Police subsequently completed the seizure formalities in accordance with the law. The seizure was carried out in the presence of witnesses and under the supervision of the Investigation Officer.
