Shillong, October 19: “It is not just three UDP MLAs who have left the party; the number is equivalent to a full football team,” said Paul Lyngdoh while responding to media queries today after submitting his letter expressing his intention to join the National People’s Party (NPP).
He stated that his decision to join the NPP was not based on any discussion or conditions regarding the allocation of ministerial berths. Instead, he said, he had chosen the NPP because he believed the party offered a better opportunity to serve the people of the state.
Lyngdoh declined to comment on UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh or the UDP as a party. He maintained that his decision to join the NPP was based on his personal belief that he could provide better service to the people through the party.
He also declined to comment on the possibility of being allocated a ministerial berth, stating that he had no information regarding the matter, which would depend on the party and the leadership of the Chief Minister.
