SHILLONG, OCT 31: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed optimism following its meeting with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi on Satuday, during which the Minister assured the delegation that he would take serious note of the issues raised concerning recruitment and other matters at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.
Speaking to the media, KSU president Raymond Kharjana said the meeting was encouraging, particularly in view of the Union Minister’s assurance to urgently look into the various issues affecting NEIGRIHMS, especially those related to recruitment.
He said the Union not only held a face-to-face meeting with the Union Health Minister but also submitted a memorandum highlighting nine key demands concerning recruitment and other issues at the institute.
Kharjana said the KSU had particularly emphasised its demand for an 80:20 female-to-male recruitment ratio in nursing posts at NEIGRIHMS, besides urging the authorities to expedite the recruitment process, as prolonged delays were adversely affecting job-seeking youths.
“We have also urged the government to upgrade NEIGRIHMS to an Institute of National Importance,” Raymond Kharjana said.
He further stated that the Union had highlighted several other issues requiring urgent attention and resolution at the institute. He expressed satisfaction that the Union Minister had assured the delegation that he would look into the various demands and concerns raised by the KSU, he added.
It may be noted that the KSU delegation’s meeting with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda was also attended by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
