Shillong, May 24: The Central Board of School Education (CBSE) has included Khasi and Garo under the third language framework.
Following the CBSE’s decision, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has thanked Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan fir facilitating the inclusion of the two languages in the CBSE R3 (third language) framework.
In a statement shared on social media platform, the Chief Minister said the move would greatly benefit students, reduce challenges faced by schools, support language teachers, and help preserve Meghalaya’s rich linguistic heritage.
“On behalf of the people of Meghalaya, I express heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Ji for his swift intervention in enabling the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the CBSE R3 framework,” the Chief Minister stated.
He further described the development as more than just an educational milestone, stating that it reflects a shared commitment towards building an inclusive education system that respects and values every linguistic identity.
The inclusion of Khasi and Garo in the CBSE framework is being viewed as a significant step towards promoting indigenous languages and strengthening cultural preservation in Meghalaya. The move is also expected to provide greater academic support for students studying regional languages under the CBSE system.
