Shillong, May 15: The decision by oil marketing companies to increase the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per litre has been felt across Meghalaya.
Car owners and transporters in the State have said that the hike in fuel prices would have a cascading effect on the economy and may lead to inflation.
In Shillong, the retail price of petrol has now gone up to Rs 98.86 per litre while the price of diesel has jumped to Rs 90 per litre.
Almost all types of goods including rice, fish, eggs and other food items in Meghalaya are transported from outside the State. The hike of the prices of petrol and diesel is likely to lead to price rise in the market.
The increase in fuel prices followed the rise in the cost of global crude oil and weaker Rupee that pushed up the cost of importing crude oil.
