Shillong, Apr 28: Sonam Raghuvanshi who was jailed in Shillong since June 2025 for the alleged murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi has been given bail.

Sonam was granted bail by the judge of the sessions court in Shillong.

According to sources, the court found lapses in the case as the police did not informed Sonam why she was taken into custody when she was picked up by a team of Meghalaya Police from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh on June 9, 2025.

The court exercised its authority after detecting the procedural lapses, sources added.

The bail granted to Sonam followed four hearings conducted by the court.

It was also learnt that another accused in the case Raj Kushwaha has filed a bail application.

Sonam, Raj and three others – Akash Rajput, Vishal Chauhan and Anand Kurmi – have been in jail since last year for the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi whose mutilated body was found on June 2, 2025 from a gorge near Wei Sawdong in Sohra.

On September 9, 2025, police filed a 790 page chargesheet before the court in connection with the murder.
