Star Cement concedes to trip demand by truckers

Shillong, Apr 29: Truckers from Jaiñtia Hills have withdrawn the strike against Star Cement Limited after the company agreed to their demands.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar on April 28 at his office in Khliehriat which was attended by members of the JAC and representees of Star Cement.

During the meeting, Star Cement agreed to allot nine loading trips per day to trucks belonging to JAC members. Seven of the loading trips will be for cement and clinker for transportation to Khatlai Mer and Sonapur while two loading trips will be for cement for transportation to Silchar.

Star Cement also assured to reduce the waiting time for load trips.

Moreover, the JAC decided to continue its strike against Dalmia Cements Limited as the company is yet to concede to the demand of local truckers.

It may be noted that the JAC is comprised of Jaiñtia Hills Truck Owners’ Association (JHTOA) and East Jaiñtia Hills Truck Owners’ and Transporters’ Association (EJHTOTA).
