Ri Bhoi, May 11, 2026: The Department of Physics and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in collaboration with the Robotics Club, USTM, jointly organised a “Robotics Skill Workshop” on May 11 to commemorate National Technology Day 2026. The workshop aimed to inspire young minds to explore the future of robotics, automation, and emerging technologies.
Designed to provide students with practical exposure and hands-on training, the workshop featured sessions on Basics of CAD, Small CAD Design Training, 3D Design Printing, Introduction to Explorer Kits, Hands-on Robot Building, and a special session titled “Lab to Market: Bridging Innovation and Entrepreneurship.” Students from various institutions across Assam and the North East participated in the programme.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Hari Prasad Jaishi, Head of the Department of Physics, USTM.
The programme was graced by Prof. G.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM, who encouraged students to embrace emerging technologies and develop innovative ideas for societal and national progress. Prof. Amit Choudhury, Dean of the School of Technology and Management and Director of the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, USTM, also addressed the gathering.

Technical sessions were conducted by trainers from the Robotics Club, USTM. Participants received hands-on training in CAD design, 3D printing, and robot building, while also witnessing live demonstrations of soccer bots and war bots, which generated enthusiastic responses among the students.
A dedicated session on “Lab to Market: Bridging Innovation and Entrepreneurship” highlighted the importance of transforming innovative ideas into practical solutions and sustainable entrepreneurial ventures. The workshop also raised awareness about the growing relevance of robotics, automation, IoT, and design technologies in modern industries and research.
Established in 2011, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is the first state private university in Science and Technology in North East India. The university was awarded an ‘A Grade’ accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) during its first cycle of assessment in 2021. USTM continues to focus on excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement while promoting inclusivity, sustainability, and regional development.
