Nongpoh, May 25: Ri Bhoi Police have arrested one person from Rajasthan in connection with a cyber fraud case where the accused allegedly impersonated a senior IPS officer through a fake social media profile to cheat a victim.
According to an official press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi District, the accused allegedly created a fake social media account in the name of Shri Vivekanand Singh Rathore, IPS, and fraudulently contacted the victim. The victim later transferred money to the accused and was subsequently defrauded.

Police informed that a case was registered at Nongpoh Police Station under Nongpoh PS Case No. 28(05)2026 under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act.
Following sustained investigation, technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, police arrested one accused identified as Jahul Ali, son of Farukh Khan and a resident of Kakrali Meo in Alwar district of Rajasthan. The accused was apprehended from Jaipur on May 23, 2026.
Ri Bhoi Police stated that further investigation into the case is currently underway.
The district police also urged the public to remain cautious against fake social media profiles and online scams, warning citizens not to transfer money without proper verification.
