Nongpoh, June 4: Ri Bhoi Foundation Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride at the DRDA Hall on Thursday, with officials and staff of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and its allied programmes coming together to mark the occasion.
The programme began with the singing of the Ri Bhoi Anthem, reaffirming the collective identity and commitment of all present towards the development and progress of the district.
A series of speeches highlighted the achievements and contributions of various departments. The District Mission Manager of the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS) outlined key initiatives undertaken to promote sustainable livelihoods, strengthen Self-Help Groups, and empower rural communities.
The RGSA Thematic Expert highlighted major accomplishments under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), particularly in enhancing local governance and building the capacities of grassroots institutions.
The Assistant District Programme Manager (ADPM), MGNREGA, presented the programme’s achievements in generating rural employment, creating durable community assets, and improving rural infrastructure. He underscored the role of MGNREGA in strengthening livelihood security and supporting village development across the district.

The Office Manager of DRDA spoke on the history and evolution of Ri Bhoi District, reflecting on its formation and the significant developmental milestones achieved over the years. The Executive Engineer, DRDA, encouraged staff members to continue contributing towards rural development through dedication, innovation, and teamwork.
The Accounts Officer shared his experiences in managing various MLA schemes, emphasizing the importance of financial discipline, accountability, and timely implementation of development projects.
In his address, the Project Director, DRDA, stressed the importance of teamwork, dedication, and a shared vision in achieving the goals of rural development. He reminded officials and staff that every programme implemented by DRDA ultimately aims to improve the lives of the people of Ri Bhoi. He further encouraged all employees to serve with sincerity, professionalism, and compassion, noting that everyone has a collective responsibility towards the district’s growth and prosperity.
The programme concluded with a prayer led by the Office Manager, DRDA, seeking blessings for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of Ri Bhoi District and its people.
The celebration provided an opportunity to reflect on the district’s developmental journey and renew the commitment of all officials and staff towards effective governance, sustainable rural development, and dedicated public service.
