Stalls, Eateries Ordered To Be Removed From Both Sides Of Upper Shillong Road

Shillong, Jul 10: The East Khasi Hills district administration has ordered the removal of all commercial establishment  operating in the Right of Way (ROW) of the four-lane road from Lai Mer to Hynñiew Mer in Upper Shillong.

The order was issued by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal who is also the Chairman of the District Highway Safety Task Force.

Baranwal stated that the order was issued as per the directive of the Supreme Court which prohibited setting up of commercial establishments including dhabas and eateries in the ROW of highways.

He also asked the owners of such commercial establishments in the ROW of the four-lane road in Upper Shillong area to demolish their structures within 15 days failing which the authorities would be compelled to act and remove them.

It may be mentioned that several shops, eateries and makeshift stalls have come up along the newly constructed four-lane road from Lai Mer to Hynñiew Mer.
