Shillong, Jul 16: After around one week of search by Meghalaya police, a Mizo youth accused of multiple rapes of young girls in Shillong has finally surrendered before police today.
Jonathan L. Pachau (21) surrendered himself before the Officer in Charge of Laitumkhrah Police Station, Shillong where he was immediately placed under arrest.
Pachau who was accused of sexually assaulting a number of underage girls, one of whom got pregnant, has absconded after his crimes were exposed on social media.
Following a complaint lodged by one girl, Laitumkhrah police booked Pachau under Sections 3, 4, 11 and 12 of POCSO Act as well as Section 64 (1) of BNS.
The case was registered against him on July 7.
Pachau is a student of a college in Shillong. He is a resident of Mizoram.

After police failed to trace his whereabouts, a look out notice was issued against him. A special team of Meghalaya police was also constituted to search him.
The sexual assault incidents involving Pachau has drawn widespread condemnation. Even the Mizo community in Shillong has expressed shock and demanded his arrest.
