Pakma Told Party He Didn’t Made ‘Shoot’ Remarks: Meghalaya BJP

Shillong, Jul 22: Following widespread outrage against an Instagram post by its youth wing president, the Meghalaya BJP has said that no such comments were made by the party.

It may be mentioned that State BJP youth wing president Mewanker Lyngdoh Pakma had posted on Instagram calling for shooting of the students now protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

As the remarks made by Pakma drew sharp reactions from various quarters, Meghalaya BJP spokesperson Arnab Das today stated that the party had sought clarification from Pakma on the matter.

“He (Pakma) has categorically denied making such statements,” Das said.

He also said that unverified claims attributed to social media handles cannot be treated as authentic. He cited past instances of social media accounts of State BJP leaders getting hacked and misused.

“Party statements always come through proper channels,” Das added.

He further said that while the BJP respects the fundamental rights of students to protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over the issue of NEET question leakage, Das said that other political parties were trying to “hijack” the protest for political gain.
