Nongpoh, July 29: Ri-Bhoi Police have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying an unidentified man whose body was recovered from a roadside drain in the MIDC area near Rapsang Mill, Umiam.
According to the Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi, information about the body was received from the Headman of Umiam on July 27, 2026. Police immediately rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry, but the identity of the deceased could not be established.
After completing all legal formalities, including an inquest and post-mortem examination, the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Mortuary, Nongpoh, where it is being kept pending identification and further necessary action.

Police have also circulated a wireless (WT) message to all Officers-in-Charge of Police Stations, Outposts, AD Camps, and PICs across the country in an effort to trace the identity of the deceased.
According to police, the deceased is a male, approximately 157 cm tall, and was wearing a white and blue checkered long-sleeved shirt. Based on the post-mortem examination, the attending Medical Officer has indicated that the deceased is suspected to be a non-tribal.
The Ri-Bhoi Police have urged anyone who may have information regarding the identity or address of the deceased to immediately contact the Police Control Room (PCR), Nongpoh at +91 6909300160 or Umiam Police Station at +91 6909300147.
