Shillong, Aug 14: The Meghalaya government has banned the sale, stocking and distribution of ‘Sting’ energy drink in the State following recent reports of an alleged death of a student in Garo Hills after consuming the energy drink.
Commissioner of Food Safety, Dr Joram Beda in an order issued today said that the ban on sale and stocking of ‘Sting’ was imposed after public health concerns and formal representations received by his office regarding the potential health hazards of the caffeinated beverage.
“The order will remain in force across all districts of the State until further orders are issued by this office upon evaluation of official laboratory analysis reports,” Dr Joda said.
It may be noted that a number or organisations from Garo Hills have urged the State government to ban ‘Sting’ energy drink following the alleged death of a student after taking this energy drink.
