Shillong, Aug 27: For the third time in a row, all 60 MLAs in Meghalaya unanimously gave their seal of approval to the resolution brought by the treasury bench.
Today, the Conrad Sangma-led MDA Government tabled a resolution in the State Legislative Assembly to oppose uranium mining in Meghalaya.
After a debate on the demerits of uranium mining, both the ruling and opposition members voted in favour of the resolution.
It may be mentioned that this is the third resolution brought by the Conrad Sangma government which drew the unanimous support of the House.
On September 28, 2018, the Assembly in one voice passed a resolution seeking for inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

One year later, on December 19, 2019, all 60 MLAs backed the government resolution urging the Central government to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.
The latest resolution by the House to oppose uranium mining however did not indicate if there is any move by the Central government to acquire land for mining of uranium in Meghalaya.

On August 1, 2016, the then Mukul Sangma-led Congress government had cancelled the 30-year lease issued to the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) to conduct pre-mining activities in land measuring 422 hectares under the Kylleng-Pyndengumïong-Mawthabah Uranium Project.
The lease was granted to UCIL by the previous D D Lapang-led government on August 24, 2009.
