Nongpoh, August 27: From a flashpoint of the recent Assam-Meghalaya traffic standoff to a waterlogged stretch of highway, Jorabat witnessed another disruption on Thursday as heavy rainfall flooded the area and brought traffic movement to a standstill.
The same spot where Assam tourist drivers had recently staged a protest and blocked vehicles travelling between Assam and Meghalaya was inundated following hours of heavy rain, creating fresh difficulties for commuters, motorists and local shopkeepers.
The flooding came after several days of tension at Jorabat, where tourist drivers from Assam had blocked vehicles from Meghalaya as part of their protest over the prevailing situation between the two states. The blockade had caused considerable hardship for commuters and transport operators using the busy highway.

However, today, the disruption came from nature, as rainwater accumulated along the highway and surrounding areas, leaving motorists and pedestrians struggling to move through the affected stretch.
For residents and shopkeepers in Jorabat, such flooding is not a new problem. The area frequently becomes waterlogged during heavy rainfall, affecting homes, businesses and traffic movement.

The latest flooding once again highlighted the recurring problems faced by people living and doing business in the area, while also disrupting vehicles travelling along NH-27, one of the key road links between Assam and Meghalaya.
