Shillong, Sep 7: Nurses of NEIGRIHMS hospital have decided to skip work on September 9 and go on an indefinite strike from next week if their demand for regular recruitment was not conceded.
The decision was announced by NEIGRIHMS Nurses Association (NNA) today.
The NNA said it would go on mass casual leave on September 9 to press for its demands. It also warned of an indefinite strike from September 17 if the authorities failed to meet the demands.
The nurses are demanding filling up of all sanctioned posts for Nursing Officer through regular recruitment, withdrawal of the proposal to outsource these posts, implementation of the office memorandum issued by the Health Ministry on May 30, 2026, and early conduct of the pending recruitment examination.

Stating that it had held meetings with Meghalaya Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and NEIGRIHMS Director Dr. Nalin Mehta on August 19 to discuss the demands, NNA lamented that there has been “no satisfactory communication, concrete feedback, or a time-bound resolution” of the issues.
NNA had launched a phase-wise agitation on the demands. These included wearing of black badges from August 17 and symbolic demonstration from 2 PM to 4 PM between August 18 and 21.
