Shillong, Sep 7: Meghalaya has emerged as one of the fastest growing economies in the country.
This was stated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma during the function at the Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong today where Vice President of India C P Radhakrishnan laid the foundation stones for five major projects in the State.
“There was a time when it was not surprising t see Meghalaya at the bottom of rankings. But because of consistency, vision, teamwork, and the efforts of our youth, women SHGs and farmers, Meghalaya today is one of the fastest economies in the country,” Sangma said.

He mentioned that the State’s development model is holistic and not just about GSDP growth of 12.8 per cent. “Our development model is being discussed at the Prime Minister’s meeting,” he added.
The chief minister also said that although Meghalaya is only 54 years old and facing various challenges, its biggest strength lies in its community and cultural identity.
