Shillong, Sep 8: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Monday said that anybody can meet anybody even as he denied that there were any moves to break the NPP.
He was reacting to the social media photos that have gone viral showing his elder brother and former MLA, Ngaitlang Dhar meeting BJP leader Sunil Deodhar.
“Anybody can meet friends. Even Conrad Sangma met Amit Shah. There’s no harm in it. Our party is united,” Sniawbhalang said.
The meeting between the senior Dhar and Deodhar has raised a lot of speculations with reports that the BJP is trying to win over 22 NPP MLAs to its fold.

There were reports that certain NPP legislators are unhappy with the leadership of Conrad Sangma and that they were looking for a way out.
With the reported moves by nine UDP MLAs to join the BJP, the saffron party may be trying to break the NPP in order to form its first government in Meghalaya.

The breaking of major local parties has happened in Maharashtra and West Bengal where legislators and MPs from these parties formed separate groups and supported the BJP.
Questions are now being asked whether UDP will have a new legislative group backing the BJP and whether a faction of the NPP MLAs would join the chorus.
