Shillong, Sep 21: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today served a legal notice on Superintendent of Police (City) Dangsan Syiem and Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Hari Prasant regarding the statements made by the two police officers that the two youth arrested for the Urkaliar incident on September 18 were KSU members.
The two youth whose names were not disclosed by police were arrested after they rammed their scooter on Additional SP (Traffic) Lovesh Garg resulting in his injuries. They were trying to evade police checking near Samkhamti Petrol Pump at Urkaliar. However, the were caught by police and subsequently produced before the court.
However, the KSU took serious objection to the subsequent statements made by Khyriem and Prasant to the media linking the arrested persons with the KSU.

The students’ body maintained that the statements made by the two police officers was “without credible or admissible material establishing that the two accused persons were members or associates of the KSU.”
The legal notice asked the two police officers to issue a formal retraction and public apology regarding their statements and to desist from making any further unverified statements about the KSU and its members.
Asking the two police officers to comply with the two demands within 15 days, the KSU said that failure to comply would compel the students’ body to pursue civil and criminal proceedings in the court of law against the two officers.
