Nongpoh, Sept 22: Students from various schools in the Maikhuli area came together to showcase traditional attire and dances representing different communities as the Kankhu Educational and Charitable Trust (KE&CT) organised a special two-day cultural programme at Maikhuli Ground.
The programme, organised to commemorate the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’, was supported financially by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The programme was inaugurated by A.N. Hajong, ADC, Ri Bhoi, in the presence of Lanutina Moyon, President of KE&CT, teachers and students from different schools in the area.
The cultural presentations saw students participating in traditional attire and dance competitions, highlighting the rich cultural diversity of the communities living in the Maikhuli area, which lies along the Meghalaya–Assam border.

An essay-writing competition was also organised as part of the programme. The winners of the various competitions will be felicitated and awarded prizes during the concluding ceremony.
