Khliehriat, September 28, 2026: A man was electrocuted and killed after a high-voltage live wire reportedly fell onto a moving vehicle at Pyrtakuna village along NH-6 on Monday evening, completely gutting the vehicle.
According to information received by the authorities, an anonymous call was received at around 7:10 p.m. reporting that a light motor vehicle (LMV), travelling from Lumshnong towards Umkiang, had been electrocuted at Pyrtakuna village and caught fire, with an occupant trapped inside.
Following the information, Sub-Inspector S. Thamar and police personnel were deputed to the spot to conduct an inquiry and take necessary action.
During the preliminary inquiry, it was reported that an Eeco vehicle bearing registration number AS01TC 6015 was travelling from Lad Rymbai towards Badarpur, Assam, when a high-voltage live wire suddenly fell onto the moving vehicle at Pyrtakuna village on NH-6.
The vehicle was completely gutted in the incident, while one of its occupants was electrocuted and died on the spot. The driver reportedly managed to escape from the vehicle and could not be located at the scene. His whereabouts remain unknown.
Due to darkness and inadequate lighting at the place of occurrence, an inquest over the deceased could not be conducted on Monday night. The body was subsequently shifted to Khliehriat Civil Hospital, where it has been kept in the morgue.
During a search of the deceased, police recovered an EPIC card and an Aadhaar card, identifying him as Riyaj Uddin, a resident of Mamadpur, Madammohan, Karimganj, Assam. Efforts are currently underway to trace and inform his relatives.
The necessary legal formalities, including the inquest and other procedures, are expected to be carried out on Tuesday morning.
