Three CJP Leaders Detained at Delhi Airport, Protest at Jantar Mantar Disrupted

Delhi/Shillong, October 10: Three senior leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), including Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, were detained by Delhi Police shortly after arriving at the airport in New Delhi, as police prevented them from proceeding to Jantar Mantar to stage a protest announced by the party.

After the leaders arrived by flight, Delhi Police personnel reportedly boarded the aircraft to detain them, triggering a heated exchange between the CJP leaders and senior police officers.

As seen in video footage, the three senior CJP leaders were unable to proceed to Jantar Mantar to hold their planned demonstration. The party had announced the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning the removal of around 13 crore voters during the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

According to reports in various media outlets, Delhi Police detained the CJP leaders because permission to hold the protest at Jantar Mantar had been denied. The party’s application was reportedly rejected because it was submitted late and because the organisers had allegedly failed to comply with previous directions during a protest, which reportedly affected public movement and led to disturbances affecting public order.

The detention of the three CJP leaders also triggered unrest in the national capital, with many youths reportedly heading towards Jantar Mantar. Delhi Police detained several youths who were attempting to reach the protest venue.

Media reports also stated that entry and exit restrictions were imposed at 45 metro stations in Delhi to prevent the CJP protest from proceeding at Jantar Mantar. Security arrangements were also strengthened to prevent any incidents that could affect public peace and order.
