Shillong, October 19: Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya’s MDA-II government and State NPP president Prestone Tynsong expressed happiness over the decision of three UDP MLAs to join the National People’s Party (NPP), after they submitted their letters to the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly today.

However, Tynsong clarified that there was no assurance of ministerial berths for the three MLAs, stating that their decision to join the NPP was aimed at further strengthening the party. He said the NPP’s strength, which previously stood at 33 MLAs, would increase to 36 MLAs, who would work to serve the people of the state.

“Joining the NPP does not mean that one will automatically get a ministerial berth. Rather, joining the NPP is about strengthening the party so that we can work further on various fundamental issues for the benefit of the people,” Tynsong said.

He further stated that the matter now rests with the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, who will carefully examine the case and take the final decision on the proposed joining of the three UDP MLAs.

Tynsong also expressed hope that a meeting would be held in the coming days to formally welcome the three UDP MLAs once they are accepted as full-fledged members of the NPP.
