Shillong, October 19: Although three United Democratic Party (UDP) MLAs submitted letters today expressing their intention to join the National People’s Party (NPP), Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma has not yet taken a decision on accepting the letters, stating that he needs to seek further advice from legal experts.
Speaking to the media, Sangma said he had received the letters from the three UDP MLAs seeking to join the NPP. However, only two MLAs, Paul Lyngdoh and Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, were physically present, while Nujorki Sungoh could not attend as he was outside the state for medical treatment.
The Speaker said he would carefully examine the letters submitted by the three UDP MLAs and that they would also need to appear in person to confirm their decision to join the NPP.
