Shillong, Oct 23: “Our time in jail is just the beginning of our continued struggle for the interests of our community. Being sent to jail does not mean that we will surrender or give up our demands,” said Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) president Raymond Kharjana after his release from Shillong District Jail on Friday evening.

Speaking to the media, Kharjana said that his time in custody had further strengthened his thoughts and determination as a leader, while helping him recognise more issues that the union must fight for to protect the community.

He alleged that following their arrest, several people had attempted to mislead the public and create misunderstandings. However, he asserted that the KSU would remain firm in its commitment to serving the Khasi community.

Kharjana said the union would continue to pursue the five demands submitted to the state government and remain committed to raising issues that are important to the community.

He also expressed gratitude to former KSU leaders, present leaders and members for their continued support and encouragement while the two leaders were in jail.

Reflecting on their experience in custody, he said that KSU members must understand that one foot could be outside jail while the other remained inside, but they should never be afraid when fighting for the community.
