Nongpoh, Oct 23: National People’s Party (NPP) national vice-president and Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said that any leader who claims to love his supporters must work sincerely for the welfare of the people rather than merely make big claims.
Speaking at an NPP election campaign meeting for MP By-election in support of Dr. DRL Nonglait at Umsning playground, Dhar said that actions must speak louder than words and that leaders should not mislead the public by making extravagant promises during election campaigns.
“Can we claim to love our families and children while our households continue to live in poverty and have nothing to sustain themselves?” Dhar asked.
He further questioned whether only those who raise slogans on the streets should be considered people who love their community. Elected representatives, he said, also love their community and have a responsibility to work for its welfare.
