NONGPOH, NOVEMBER 7: Dispur Police on Saturday recovered the partially decomposed body of a woman stuffed inside a sack near Ganesh Mandir, with murder suspected.

The body was first discovered by local residents, who noticed a sack with a pair of legs protruding from it, indicating that it contained a human body.

According to information received, Dispur Police rushed to the spot soon after being alerted and launched an investigation. A forensic team also arrived at the scene to examine the body and collect evidence.

The discovery has raised suspicions that the deceased could be Jina Baishya of Khanapara, who was reportedly missing for the past few days. Her family had earlier lodged missing complaints with Meghalaya Police and Basistha Police.

Upon receiving information about the recovery, Jina’s family members, including her husband, arrived at the spot.

Her husband claimed that the clothes and bangles worn by the deceased resembled those worn by his wife when she went missing from home, leading to suspicion that the body could be that of Jina.

However, the woman’s identity has not yet been officially established, as neither the police nor the family has made any formal confirmation.

Police are yet to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Further investigation and forensic examination are expected to establish her identity and determine the cause of death.
