Shillong, Nov 6: The suspension of Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Rayonald Kharkamni will continue till the end of the term of the MCA Apex Council.

In an order issued today, MCA Ombudsman, Justice (Retd) B D Agarwal upheld the suspension of Kharkamni imposed by MCA president James Sangma on June 27.

As per the Ombudsman’s order, Kharkamni will remain suspended till the elected body of MCA’s Apex Council completes its tenure in December 2028.

Kharkamni has been directed to hand over all MCA property including files, records, passwords and equipment to the MCA.

The trouble in MCA started in December 2025 when a group of women cricketers brought sexual harassment complaints against the coach and team manager.

However, the MCA secretary allegedly kept quiet and took no action on the basis of the complaint.

The matter went to the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) which ruled in favour of the complainants and hit out at MCA for failing to protect the interest of women cricketers.

Kharkamni challenged the suspension in the Meghalaya High Court. However, court rejected his plea and held that the MCA president did not act arbitrarily while suspending Kharkamni.

The High Court also referred to the findings of the Women’s Commission and the failure by the MCA to act on the complaint by women cricketers.
