Sharing knowledge programme on handicrafts held at ITTC Nongpoh

Nongpoh, December 07: The Central Silk Board, as a nodal agency under the Ministry of Textiles and hosted by the Textile Department of Meghalaya, organized a knowledge sharing programme under the guidance of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).

The programme, held at the Integrated Textiles & Tourism Centre in Nongpoh, saw enthusiastic participation from entrepreneurs representing various Northeastern states.

Several experts and resource persons delivered presentations on key topics. Shri Naveen Dhingra, Chief General Manager, NABARD Assam, spoke on GI crafts in the handloom sector. Shri Bhaskar Baruah, Export Promotion (WPCH) Assam, deliberated on the export of handicrafts. Shri Mara Kocho, Managing Director, NEHHDC Assam, discussed the handloom and handicraft industries.

Other speakers included Shri Tshering Tobgay Bhutia, Director of Handicrafts & Handloom, Government of Sikkim, who spoke on the crafts of Sikkim; Shri Alangbam Jeeten Singh, Director of Handloom & Textiles, Government of Manipur, who highlighted Manipur’s craft traditions; Shri Ajit Sukla Das, Director of Handloom, Handicraft & Sericulture, Government of Tripura, who shared insights on Tripura’s crafts, cane and bamboo industry; and Shri Dorjee Phuntso, Director of Textile & Handicraft, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, who presented on the crafts of Arunachal Pradesh.

The session also emphasized the importance of promoting handicrafts from various states of Northeast India.
