Knowledge sharing session held at ITTC Nongpoh to boost production of eri silk, muga silk and Jute

Nongpoh, December 09: The Central Silk Board and the National Jute Board under the Ministry of Textiles jointly organized a knowledge-sharing session on December 8, 2025, focusing on sustainable muga and eri silk production in the Northeast, along with the promotion of jute geotextiles.

The programme was held at the Conference Hall of the Integrated Textile and Tourism Centre, Mawdiangum, Nongpoh, in Ri Bhoi District.

P. Sivakumar, Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board; M.R. Lywait, Director of Sericulture; Abhishek Kumrar Deputy Secretary (Fibre) Ministry of textiles, and Narish Babu, Joint Secretary, attended the session and highlighted key initiatives aimed at strengthening sustainable production of muga, eri silk, and jute to benefit farmers.

Resource persons from various sectors also delivered presentations on a wide range of topics related to enhancing the production of muga, eri silk, and jute. A technical session was conducted to explain modern techniques in production, market linkage, and the adoption of new technologies to boost productivity and improve the livelihood of farmers.
