Supporters and opponents of Shree Cement march to the DC office; commotion erupts as police block their entry

Khliehriat, May 21: Tension escalated in East Jaintia Hills over the proposed Public Hearing of Shree Cement Limited scheduled to be held tomorrow, May 22, 2026, as both supporters and opponents of the project marched to the office of the Deputy Commissioner to voice their stand on the issue.

According to reports, a large number of people opposing the Public Hearing forcefully proceeded towards the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills today to protest against the proposed Public Hearing of Shree Cement Limited.

At the same time, groups supporting and opposing the company gathered and attempted to enter the Deputy Commissioner’s office. However, police personnel stationed at the main gate prevented both groups from entering the premises.

Eyewitnesses stated that supporters of the Public Hearing as well as those opposing it insisted on entering the office, but the police denied them access. This led to a heated confrontation and commotion at the entrance gate, with members of the crowd reportedly pushing against the barricades in an attempt to force their way inside. Despite the chaos, the police continued to block entry into the office premises.
