Conrad K. Sangma Announces Prof. Dr. DRL Nonglait as NPP Candidate for Shillong Parliamentary By-Election

Shillong, May 07: Although the Election Commission of India has yet to officially announce the by-election for the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency, three candidates are expected to be in the fray. These include Prof. Dr. Batskhem Myrboh of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), former MP Vincent H. Pala of the Indian National Congress (INC), and Prof. Dr. DRL Nonglait of the National People’s Party (NPP).

The NPP on Wednesday officially declared Prof. Dr. DRL Nonglait as its candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency.

It may be mentioned that Prof. Dr. DRL Nonglait was recently approached by NPP leaders, led by Working President Hamlet Dohling, at his residence, where he was offered the party ticket to contest the by-election. Nonglait subsequently accepted the offer, following which the party formally announced his candidature today.

Apart from former MP Vincent H. Pala, Prof. Dr. Batskhem Myrboh is a professor at North-Eastern Hill University in the Department of Political Science, while Prof. Dr. DRL Nonglait is a professor in the Khasi Department.

Ahead of the by-election, the NPP officially announced Prof. Dr. DRL Nonglait as its party candidate during a meeting held at state central library, Shillong on Thursday.

The programme was attended by Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP National President Conrad K. Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister and NPP State President Prestone Tynsong, Jirang MLA and Minister in-charge of Community and Rural Development Sosthenes Sohtun, along with several other senior leaders of the party.
