GAD Minister Sohtun Assures Minimal Disruption to Teachers During Census

Shillong, May 2: Sosthenes Sohtun, who holds the General Administration Department (GAD) portfolio, has said the government is taking steps to address concerns raised by teachers ahead of the upcoming census exercise.

Speaking to the media, Sohtun acknowledged that educators will be involved in the enumeration process but assured that their duties will be structured in a way that does not interfere significantly with regular classroom teaching.

He emphasised that the census is a crucial exercise for governance, as accurate data helps ensure that citizens can access key welfare benefits, including employment schemes, ration facilities, and healthcare services.

At the same time, the minister reiterated that teachers play a vital role in shaping the future of students, and their responsibilities in schools will not be overlooked while planning census-related work.

He added that efforts are being made to maintain a balance between administrative requirements and academic commitments, so that the process is carried out smoothly without affecting the education system.
