International Day of Plant Health held at College of Agriculture Kyrdemkulai

Nongpoh, May 12: International Day of Plant Health was held today at College of Agriculture, CAU-Imphal, Kyrdemkulai under the theme “Plant Biosecurity for Food Security”.

Dr. Nilima Karam and Dr. Pranab Jyoti Sarma addressed the gathering by explaining how the pest and disease severely affect the crops of India, leading to reduction in Agricultural productivity and Economic loss to farmers.

She encouraged the students to actively participate in the conservation of natural resources and emphasized the importance of sustainability and plant protection for future generations.

Dr. Narendra Kumar delivered an informative speech regarding IPCC reports and climate change. He spoke about the relationship between plant health and food security, stressing the need for awareness and collective efforts to address environmental challenges.

Mr. Ankan Sarkar and Ms. Dorothy B.Sc. Agriculture student delivered speech about the objective, importance and how International Plant Health Day came into play.

Coordinator Dr. Ngangom Uma Devi delivered an informative and knowledgeable presentation on “Plant Biosecurity for Food Security” explaining about important insect pests and diseases which affects the global food security and its management.
