Shillong, Aug 7: At least seven police personnel were injured in the mob violence that occured during the meeting of the Durbar Hima Langrin in South West Khasi Hills District today.
According to police, the meeting was held at the office compound of Hima Langrin at Phlangdiloin and was attended by nearly 1500 people, primarily supporters of the Syiem of Hima Langrin, Nongtei Syiemïong.
Police also informed that during the course of the meeting, another group of people opposed to Syiemïong, arrived at the venue on the pretext of attending the meeting.

“At around 12:15 PM towards the conclusion of the meeting, a section of the opposing group turned violent, damaging chairs and other properties at the venue. Police had to resort to the use of force to bring the situation under control. However, at least seven police personnel sustained injuries in the incident,” police said.
Stating that the injured police personnel are receiving necessary medical treatment, police informed that security presence in and around the area is continuing in order to prevent further unrest.
