SHILLONG, SEPT 26: Deputy Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) national vice president Sniawbhalang Dhar has ruled out speculation about him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that he will remain with the NPP.
Dhar’s statement comes amid speculation over possible political realignments following the merger of eight United Democratic Party (UDP) MLAs with the BJP.
Reacting to reports that he too could switch to the BJP, Dhar said some people had personally contacted him to verify the reports.
“There is nothing wrong in them calling me. They wanted to verify from me personally. But I would just like to confirm to you that I am sticking with my NPP party,” he said.

Dhar said he respects the mandate given to him by the people of his Nartiang constituency and the people of Meghalaya.
“I belong to NPP and I will continue to be with NPP only. The question of switching to any party does not arise. I cannot betray my people of Nartiang constituency and the people of Meghalaya,” he said.
