Umiam, July 25: Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Secretary of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Additional Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, visited the ICAR Research Complex for the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region at Umiam on Friday to review the institute’s ongoing research, development and extension activities.
During the visit, a joint interaction and review meeting was held with the scientists and staff of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VII, and ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR).
Shri Tripathi interacted with the scientific, administrative and finance personnel and reviewed the various programmes and initiatives being implemented by the institute. He commended the dedication and efforts of the staff in strengthening agricultural research, technology development and innovation for the North Eastern Hill Region.

A major highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Solar Biomass-Based Hybrid Dryer, a technology developed by the ICAR Research Complex. The energy-efficient and sustainable drying system is designed to improve post-harvest management, minimise losses and enhance value addition to agricultural produce.
Shri Tripathi also toured the institute’s laboratories, where he was briefed on ongoing research projects across various scientific disciplines. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss strategies for strengthening research collaborations, promoting innovative technologies and addressing emerging agricultural challenges specific to the North Eastern Hill Region.
The visit reaffirmed ICAR’s commitment to advancing science-driven, farmer-centric and sustainable agricultural development, with a focus on improving the livelihoods of farming communities across the North East.
