Shillong, Jul 7: The Laitlyngkot – Pynursla stretch of Shillong – Dawki road has again witnessed a major landslide today.
This time, the landslide occured near Pomlum where huge chunks of rocks and boulders came crashing from the hillside into the road following heavy rainfall in the area today morning.
The landslide has totally blocked the road. The incident happened due to the ongoing excavation work for widening of the road.

The company that is engaged for the road widening project has sent excavators to try to clear the landslide in order to open the road for vehicular traffic.
It may be mentioned that the stretch from Laitlyngkot to Pynursla has seen recurring landslides ever since the road widening project started in the last two years.
The National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) which is overseeing the project has engaged IIT Guwahati to conduct a slope vulnerability study along the entire stretch from Laitlyngkot to Dawki.
